PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

House of You

Dr. Bianca Roberts

Being a physician in America is harder than ever before, largely because laws and regulations are made by people who have never practiced medicine in their lives. Personally, I got involved in my local medical society because our collective voices can demand change and, importantly, make it happen. Your voice is critical and I invite you to join me, stand up, and be heard.

You can do that by joining the SSVMS Delegation to the California Medical Association’s (CMA) House of Delegates (HOD).

As a delegate, you connect with passionate colleagues across the state and affect CMA policy direction through robust debate and conversation. Each October, we gather in-person, alternating between Sacramento and Southern California. This year’s meeting is at the JW Marriott LA Live from October 21-22.

Major topics of discussion this year include artificial intelligence in health care, health care affordability, and climate change’s impact on health.

Our District XI delegation is the largest in the state and is made up of physicians from multiple Northern California counties. Along with the annual meeting, our delegation gathers virtually four times per year to discuss and take positions on current resolutions.

Physicians make a difference for our profession and our patients. This is how you can make a difference for all of us.

Thank you!

Historic legislation renews MCO Tax & expands Medi-Cal patient access to care

The California Legislature passed the health budget trailer bill, which includes the renewal of the state's Managed Care Organization (MCO) Tax. This important financial mechanism will raise a total of $19.4 billion, with much of it being spent on the state’s health care infrastructure, including the largest Medi-Cal rate increase in California history.

This is a monumental achievement toward fulfilling Medi-Cal’s promise of access to health care and will help achieve justice and equity for the 14 million Californians who rely on the program for their health care.
