PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Thank You, Everyone

As my term as SSVMS President winds up, I thought about what we’ve done. Several things stand out.

Firstly, physician voices matter. Organized medicine is at its best when we’re all involved and speak up. I’ve spoken with a lot more policymakers and legislators than I anticipated when taking on this role. Speaking up, speaking out, and sharing our stories makes a big difference in the final policy outcomes. Never underestimate the power of your experiences. Find out how to get involved here.

Secondly, the physicians that volunteer their knowledge and time toward our charitable endeavors are the lifeblood of the organization. Thanks to our colleagues, nearly 500 uninsured patients received donated specialty care and more than 100 high school students were exposed to various healthcare careers. We expanded harm reduction education and efforts to prevent opioid related overdose deaths, and hundreds of students received education on the history of medicine. 

Finally, SSVMS is lucky to have such dedicated and quality staff supporting us. It’s a small team but the amount of work they do greatly amplifies our voices.

It has been one of the great honors of my career to serve as your President this past year and I look forward to working with Vanessa Walker, DO as she transitions into the role.
