PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We Need You!

Last month, we spoke about a few of CMA's priority bills that made it to Governor Newsom's desk. Today, I'm happy to report that the Governor signed all four bills, which includes requiring physicians and not AI to make the final decision on patient care (SB 1120), programs to help identify victims of trafficking and domestic violence (SB 963), addressing violence in emergency departments (AB 977), and removing the requirement to disclose non-impairing mental health conditions to the Medical Board of California (AB 2164).

Even with these major successes, SSVMS continues to push for positive change. We invite you to participate in a few important initiatives.

First, consider contributing to the Holiday Sharing Card to support the SSVMS Medical Student Scholarship Fund. Donations made by November 10, 2024, will help future physicians and include your name on the card and in our annual report. Let’s support the new wave of physicians!

Secondly, help ensure access to care by supporting Proposition 35 on the November ballot. Visit the new Action Center to share your story, download campaign materials, and show your support for this critical initiative that protects health care funding without raising taxes or premiums.

Lastly, you should’ve received the Joy of Medicine Sacramento Region Physician Survey last week. If you didn’t receive the survey, please respond to this email or call 916-452-2671. Survey participants will receive a $10 Amazon gift card for your time. This survey will guide SSVMS on advocacy efforts for physician wellbeing.

Thank you!

Vanessa Walker, DO
